Something is stirring in education. Society, and especially families, seek for a better education for their children. This doesn’t only mean they want them to acquire a set of skills that will enable them to have a good future, but also–and most importantly–that bring them nearer to a precious asset for the human being: happiness. There are many pedagogical proposals in this respect. 

This book approaches a new but classic proposal. Building up the character is an issue already addressed by the philosopher Aristotle. It is said everything written after him was nothing more than simple side notes. Obviously, current circumstances have changed, and new educational proposals can be built on the solid foundation of the great Greek master. These new proposals can help our children, teenagers and youth to live a life full of meaning. They can enable them to make thoughtful, sincere, critical, creative and prudent decisions; encourage them to be responsible, fair and committed citizens; transmit the importance of the culture of effort, teamwork, cooperation, perseverance…, that, properly intertwined, are essential for a real and comprehensive education.

The different chapters approach the character’s education from different perspectives, ranging from the most elemental and general to the most specific and detailed. The authors are specialists in the field, having many years of experience at different educational levels, where they have developed this educational proposal, which responds to one of the most relevant and exciting challenges of our time.

Josu AHEDO RUIZ holds a Degree in Philosophy, Political Sciences and Law and a Degree in Communication. He holds a PhD in Philosophy and Letters from the University of Navarra. He is the director of the research group Educational task in action at the International University of La Rioja. His lines of research focus on character education, teacher training and interpersonal relationships in today’s digital society.

Juan Luis FUENTES holds a Degree in Pedagogy, where he received the National Extraordinary Award. He holds a PhD in Education by the Complutense University of Madrid, where he was awarded the Extraordinary Prize. His lines of research are focussed on character education, social pedagogy and the use of technology from an ethical-civic perspective.

Carmen CARO SAMADA, holds a Degree in Humanities from the Pablo de Olavide University of Seville, where she graduated with honours. She holds a PhD in Education from the University of Navarra, where she was awarded the Extraordinary Prize. She has given lectures at national and international conferences and has published several articles on narrative and moral education.
